We are minutes north of Lake of the Woods, on the eastern limit of the North American central flyway. Our area is dotted with lakes, rivers and marshes.
Wild rice grows commonly in most local marshes and provides great feasting for northern flocks on their way to warmer climes.
Because these northern birds have not yet had any hunting pressure at this early stage in their trip south, the birds are large and healthy.

Early season birds consist of mallards, teal, wood ducks, ring-necks, bluebills, Canada Geese. Hunting at this time of year consists of morning and evening shoots, combined with daytime grouse-hunting.

Late season sees large northern mallards, blue-bills, goldeye (buffle-heads) arriving on cold Arctic winds. Large flocks typify the bird patterns at this time of year, and good hunting can be had throughout the day.

Our pulp and paper industry has created literally hundreds of miles of old logging roads and trails throughout the Lake of the Woods area. New overgrowth of poplar and birch now make for excellent grouse habitat.

The most popular method of hunting these trails is either walking or riding an ATV.
Hunting with bird-dogs is very productive.
Possession limits are 5 Ruffed or Spruce grouse/ day, to total of 15.
